It is essential to have a veterinary hospital cleaning checklist no matter the size of your veterinary clinic. Every day pets, owners and staff enter and leave the premises leaving behind them germs and dirt. This is why we compiled this checklist to help you make sure that you are able to maintain high hygiene levels in your clinic

Waiting Room

Waiting rooms can be the dirtiest areas in your clinic due to their high traffic. As a result, we think that it only makes sense to start our veterinary hospital cleaning checklist with them. This area includes the doorway, seating area and the visitor restroom. The waiting room will be full of animal hairs, dust and accidents from ill pets like vomit. Depending on the weather, the cleaning could be made even more challenging with the addition of mud from the outside. Make sure to sweep and vacuum the area for any hairs. Moreover, make sure that the restroom is kept in a sanitary condition and is well-stocked for everyday and emergency use. After cleaning and then mopping the floor, make sure to disinfect anything that comes in contact with people and pets. Do take extra care when disinfecting areas where food and drinks can be found.

Veterinary Hospital Offices and Staff Rooms Cleaning Checklist

The next rooms on our veterinary hospital cleaning checklist are centred around the staff. The office and staff rooms might not be as dirty as the waiting areas (hopefully). However, this does not mean that they do not require a thorough clean. There are probably going to be more food and drinks in staff areas compared to the waiting room. Just like in the waiting rooms, make sure to take special care of spots that are related to food and drinks. In addition, food and drinks are not only eaten but also prepared in the staff kitchens which means even more cleaning in that area. Another thing to bear in mind is that there are going to be a lot of electronics in staff areas such as phones. When cleaning electronics make sure to use supplies that will not damage them.

Treatment and Examination Rooms

The first thing to consider when cleaning treatment and examination rooms is that different owners and their animals will be constantly coming in and out so organising a cleaning schedule in-between visits is a really good idea. Another thing to think about is kennels. If you have kennels make sure to disinfect and clean them with safe and effective products. The rest of the cleaning can be carried out similarly to the other areas. Lastly, medical waste needs to be handled carefully bearing in mind proper rules and laws.
