Most people will consider themselves a good cleaner.

However, from a professional point of view, we have realised that this is not quite the case. Here is the reason; cleaning is subjective to individual standards of cleanliness, hence most people clean to the standard they are comfortable with (or to a standard of their knowledge). From a professional point of view, cleaning should have a set standard. A standard that meets all expectation.

So, when it comes to kitchens, what do you consider as a clean kitchen?

Here is a general rule for cleanliness in the kitchen: Food and dirt don’t work together, so wherever dirt can sit, you must clean. In this blog we will start from the top and focus on the kitchen cabinet. Below is a typical cabinet top, which can be found in most kitchens. It can be full of grease, dust, forgotten items, waste residue from when the kitchen was constructed and many more. During one of our deep cleans at a residential property, we encountered a mild grease challenge.

Post cleaning – Grease and other old stains attracted to the top of the kitchen cabinet must be removed during cleaning

Here are the simple steps you need to follow:

  1. Remove content on the top of the cabinet and inside, if you cannot reach the top of the cabinet, then please find a safe step ladder or other suitable elevation.
  2. Start cleaning from the top. Apply the cream cleaner to the sponge then rub against the grease across the top of the cabinet. Make sure the grease becomes loosened up.
  3. If stubborn grease or dirt persists, then engage the use of the plastic scraper. The plastic scraper is good for digging long term dirt from the surface.
  4. Once successful with the above stages, dampen the microfiber cloth and wipe off all the dirt then you have a clean surface.
  5. Follow the same processes as above while cleaning the cabinet shelves and underside. The underside, though easier to access than the top, can still be overlooked. It can easily be the home of food splashes, stains from greasy evaporated steam that later dry up to discolour the cabinet underside.

Here is what all cabinet tops should look like.

Post cleaning – the grease and stains from the top of the left side cabinet has been cleaned.
